You know that saying, "you eat with your eyes first"? Well, Tokyo Disney Resort's plethora of snacks and special event treats engage and tempt all your senses. And I'm eating right out of the palm of their hand.
If you've got a trip planned in the future or you enjoy looking at cute food, you might be somewhat overwhelmed by all the choices that TDR offers. This post covers some of my favorite snacks, but if you're still unsure, the official Tokyo Disney Resort website is also a fantastic resource.
Tokyo Disneyland
World Bazaar
Mickey Mouse Waffle from the Great American Waffle Company (¥450)
While Mickey waffles can be found at all the Disney resorts worldwide, here at Tokyo Disneyland you can enjoy delightful toppings like strawberries & custard or red bean & matcha. It's a great way to start your day, especially if you're too busy chasing characters to eat a proper meal. If you have a moment, watch the Cast Members prep the waffles because it's quite amusing.
White Rabbit Easter Parfait from Sweet Heart Cafe (¥860)
Although this is a seasonal treat, parfaits from Sweet Heart Cafe are pretty common. I loved this souvenir plastic cup that was included, which made it worth almost $8.
Frozen Fantasy Blueberry Cheesecake Sundae from Ice Cream Cone (¥500)
This sundae is a specialty event item and won't be available any longer, but the Ice Cream Cone has some delicious flavors. That blueberry ice cream was refreshing!
Westernland
Frozen Fantasy Vanilla Churro from Parkside Wagon (¥310)
Another special event item. Flavored churros seem to be all the rage and I can understand why. Even though the vanilla flavor was subtle, it was still a very enjoyable snack.
Mickey Mouse Cinnamon Churro from Pecos Bill Cafe (¥310)
An iconic treat, but better because everything's better Mickey shaped.
Frontier Double Pie from Pecos Bill Cafe (¥500)
Equals parts savory and sweet, this pastry has meat on one end and nuts on the other. Sounds a bit strange, but with the unique shape of the pastry (a shelled peanut) and the adorable Chip and Dale wrapper, it's all in good fun.
Adventureland
Mickey Mouse Teriyaki Steamed Bao Bun from Boiler Room Bites (¥450)
Delicious pork and chicken within three soft steamed bao buns. Though bao buns are typical in Asia, it's not every day when you encounter them in the shape of Mickey Mouse!
Fantasyland
Mickey Ice Bar Tropical Fruit (¥310)
Too good to pass up even in cold weather, this ice bar is refreshing and packed with flavor.
Minnie Ice Bar Peach & Strawberry (¥310)
As I mentioned before, these ice bars aren't playing around with their intense flavor. Either flavor is great, so make sure to try both!
Honey Popcorn found just outside Pooh's Honey Hunt (¥310)
Originally, I wasn't too interested in trying this popcorn flavor since I'm not too keen on artificial honey flavor, but I love honey by itself. However, this popcorn exceeded my expectations. Rather than a strong salty honey mess, it tastes like honey tea, very delicate.
Milk Chocolate Popcorn found right beside the Castle Carousel (¥310)
The smell of milk chocolate popcorn actually engulfs the entire surrounding area and welcomes you into Fantasyland. That's why this flavor boasts such a long line.
Tomorrowland
Scrump Mochi from Space Place FoodPort (¥400)
Unfortunately, these adorable Scrump mochi were a seasonal item, but you can still find mochi throughout the Disney resort. These had such unique fillings: banana, mango, and purple sweet potato cream!
Soy Sauce & Butter Popcorn found next to Treasure Comet (¥310)
Arguably the best flavor of popcorn found at TDR. I've tried to recreate this one at home and I've failed miserably. Till then I'll be dreaming of this out-of-this-world snack.
Tokyo DisneySea
Mediterranean Harbor
Egg & Bacon Focaccia from Mama Biscotti's (¥270)
Mama Biscotti's Bakery is no joke when it comes to on-the-go treats. One morning we picked these up while waiting for Come Join Your Friends and I fell in love. The focaccia bread is really light and the bacon doesn't overpower the delicious egg. I usually buy two because I always end up wishing for a second.
Curry Pan from Mama Biscotti's (¥270)
Yaki Karē Pan is a delicious loaf filled with curry! It's coated with panko on the outside for a little texture. I've actually made these at home since the first time I had them in Tokyo DisneySea because they're unforgettable.
LGM mochi from Mama Biscotti's Bakery (¥360)
This is perhaps Tokyo Disney Resort's most iconic mochi. Each little alien is different with chocolate, strawberry, or custard filling inside. We are eternally grateful.
Cappuccino popcorn from Via Delle Viti (¥310)
This popcorn certainly smells heavenly, but the taste was a bit too strong for me. Although, it didn't go to waste because Jane (who detests coffee) enjoyed this popcorn. I believe Cappuccino is a seasonal flavor that usually switches out with Herb Tomato!
Mysterious Island
Potato Churro from the Refreshment Station (¥380)
At first, one might think the idea of a potato churro is odd, but it's actually ingenious. It's well-seasoned and crispy on the outside like a french fry, but inside it's soft like a twice baked potato. Once you get one you'll understand why this treat has such a long line.
Mermaid Lagoon
Sea Salt Ice Cream Monaka from Mermaid Lagoon (¥310)
At this point, we've tried the iconic Mickey Premium Bars and the assortment of ice cream bars and sandwiches readily available at the Disney Parks, right? Well, none of them compare to this incredible little seashell. This has a crisp mochi wafer outer shell, creamy vanilla inside and a strawberry puree center. The packaging, featuring Minnie Mouse (as a mermaid), April, May, and June, is also too cute to throw away!
Arabian Coast
Chandu Tail from Sultan's Oasis (¥450)
The Chandu Tail is definitely a park-wide favorite. Based on the beloved Chandu from Sinbad's Storybook Voyage, the tail is a simple bao bun with a creamy chicken filling. Whenever I eat one of these, I find myself asking when we'll be able to buy another.
Curry popcorn in front of the Arabian Coast (¥310)
Don't take this lightly, but this is the best popcorn flavor at Tokyo DisneySea! The scent of rich curry coats the air in the Coast and makes you drool when you wait in the 25+ minute line. If you're gonna wait in line for any popcorn at Disney, let it be curry popcorn. The flavor is just the right amount of curry kick and it tastes like a warm hug.
Port Discovery
Ukiwa Bun from Seaside Snack (¥500)
Another bao bun treat, but this time it's filled with shrimp! This on-the-go snack is very popular amongst guests. I would much rather pay for the Chandu tail, as I find the shrimp to be a little underwhelming, but I still enjoy this bun. It's definitely worth trying at least once, if not for the aesthetic alone.
American Waterfront
Milk Chocolate Popcorn found in front of Cape Cod Cook-off (¥500)
Just like Tokyo Disneyland's milk chocolate popcorn, the smell of the chocolate is very enticing. The cart is also sure to bring in any Duffy fan.
Happy Friends Mochi from Cape Cod Confection (¥430)
More mochi! These have a bit of a different texture than the Aliens and they're filled with chocolate (Duffy) and blueberry (Shellie May). I had more fun squishing their faces because they're too cute to eat.
White Chocolate Popcorn found by Liberty Landing Diner (¥310)
One word: addicting. We found ourselves shoveling handfuls of this popcorn into our mouths. The entire box lasted us no more than 5 minutes. I'm a big fan of white chocolate, so I found the buttery popcorn and subtle white chocolate flavors really blended well.
Black Pepper Popcorn found by Dockside Stage (¥310)
Admittedly, we were hesitant to try this flavor since it seemed rather basic, but we had also heard great things. We weren't disappointed. Black pepper popcorn tastes quite literally like grilled corn seasoned with melted butter and fresh cracked pepper. I'm now a fan.
Baked potatoes from Hudson River Harvest (¥450)
There are actually two varieties of potatoes to choose between: bacon and cheese or honey mustard. While this could be considered a meal, I also love how easy it is to eat on the go. This dish reminded me of seasoned breakfast potatoes, but crispy, flaky, and buttery inside.
Well, that just about sums it up. I'm sure this list will grow eventually when I return to Tokyo Disney Resort. Till then, I'm craving Chandu tails and soy sauce popcorn.
Bon Appétit,
Mary! (❛▿❛✿)
