Sixty-four years - a little bit older and little uglier (I’m looking at you, Tomorrowland) and yet Disneyland holds a constant place in my heart. Growing up, I spent my mornings and afternoons just devouring Disney Sing Along Songs: Disneyland Fun with the hope that someday I would be able to share my Mickey pancakes with Winnie-the-Pooh and spin in a tea cup with Alice. That dream came true when I turned twelve and my family finally visited Disneyland for the 50th Anniversary Celebration. I fell in love with the quaint shops on Main Street, the tiny castles in Storybook Land, and the snowcapped peak of the Matterhorn. My love for Disneyland only grew and when I was nineteen I moved out to Anaheim, only five minutes away from the theme parks.
When I think about the dedication and imagination Walt put into Disneyland (it still baffles me that Disneyland was built in under a year,) I am completely moved. Yes, the Disney Theme Parks have expanded and grown since 1955, but they are not without the success of that little orange grove turned Happiest Place on Earth.
Disneyland is Your Land
Sixty-four years and on. Happy anniversary!
Till next time,
Mary! (❛▿❛✿)
